On November 8, 2017, the first public hearing was held on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs and the role of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. Besides the European Parliament, the Serbian National Assembly was among the first ones that organized the public hearing on this topic. The session was broadcasted live, with the presence of the media, as well as of a large number of representatives of the Ministries and organizations of the civil society. Prof. Slavica Đukić Dejanović, Ph.D., the Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in charge of demography and population policy, and the President of the Inter-sectoral Working Group for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda up to 2030, addressed the audience, as well as Karla Hershey, the UN Resident Coordinator and the UNDP Resident Representative.

Milorad Mijatović, Ph.D., a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly and the President of the Focus Group for the development of mechanisms of oversight of the process of implementation of SDGs and Dubravka Filipovski, the President of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) and the Vice President of the Foreign Affairs Committee emphasized the oversight role of the Parliament and importance of familiarizing all of the MPs, as well as local government members with the SDGs.
