Meeting of the Focus Group for the development of the control mechanisms for the process of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals

The MPs gathered in the Focus Group met on Sunday,9th June and Monday, 10th June, at a two-day meeting in Vrdnik, in order to organize future activities, develop an action plan and prepare for the upcoming Voluntary National Report on SDGs prepared by the Cabinet of the Minister without a portfolio for demography and population policy.

Dr Milorad Mijatovic presented the National Assembly’s work on the development of mechanisms to monitor the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the panel meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Standing Committee for United Nations Affairs in Geneva.

Public Hearing on Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals: Role of the National Assembly

The National Assembly House hosted a public hearing entitled “Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals: Role of the National Assembly”, organized by the Foreign Affairs Committee. The public hearing was organized with the help of the Focus Group for the Development of Control Mechanisms for the Process of Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

First Public Hearing on Implementation of SDGs at Serbian National Assembly

On November 8, 2017, the first public hearing was held on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs and the role of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. Besides the European Parliament, the Serbian National Assembly was among the first ones that organized the public hearing on this topic.

Ruling Majority and Opposition in Agreement on Future Development

The members of the parliamentary Focus Group for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals achieved a very high degree of agreement on the activities to be implemented to ensure optimal development in line with the goals set out in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
